City of Allentown issued the following announcement on Apr 15.

Allentown city government buildings will remain closed to the public indefinitely.

Mayor Ray O’Connell closed city buildings on March 25 after Pennsylvania Governor Tom Wolf issued a “Stay at Home” order for Lehigh and Northampton counties. The mayor’s original order was then extended for two weeks and was due to expire Friday, April 17. The new order just extends the closure indefinitely.

Mayor O’Connell is also extending his order suspending the city’s street cleaning program now through Sunday, May 3. The mayor’s original order went into effect on March 17. Although residents may still see a sweeper operating on their street, no street cleaning tickets will be issued during the suspension.

Governor Wolf has ordered all non-essential businesses to close to help mitigate the spread of the deadly COVID-19 pandemic. As a result, more vehicles are parked on all city streets leaving those vehicles on designated street cleaning routes with little place to go.
