Erie County issued the following announcement on June 10.
Thursday, June 11th, 2020, is “Barry Grossman Day” in Erie County. Erie County Council recognized Grossman during their Regular Meeting on May 26th with a citation and declaration in his honor.
Erie County Council Vice-Chair, Carl Anderson, III – “I am honored to join together with my County Council colleagues in remembering and recognizing my friend, former Country Executive Barry Grossman, who believed so strongly in community college education. We chose the 11th because tomorrow the Pennsylvania Board of Education will vote on the County’s community college application. I only wish Barry could be here with us to celebrate this historic event.”
Council Chairman André Horton – “With Erie County standing at this historic moment, we felt it was the perfect time to remember Mr. Grossman, who understood that gaps in educational offerings and workforce development were holding back Erie County and its economy.”
Former County Executive Grossman played a major role in the last push for an Erie County Community College in 2010, starting with Resolution Number 27 “Sponsorship of an Erie County Community College.” While the effort proved unsuccessful, much was gleaned from the experience. It was an important lesson, laying the ground for the County’s current application.
The Pennsylvania Board of Education is set to meet today, June 10th, for an evidentiary hearing at the Erie County Convention Center. Thursday, June 11th, The Board of Education is scheduled to make a long awaited decision regarding the fate of the Erie County Community College Plan.
