ERIE COUNTY: Reports 178 new positive cases of COVID-19 and 4 deaths; cumulative total is 5,798

Erie County issued the following announcement on Dec 2.

County Executive Kathy Dahlkemper and Erie County Department of Health announce 178 new positive cases of COVID-19 and four new deaths have been reported in Erie County as of 11:59 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 1.

The total cumulative cases of COVID-19 in Erie County since March is 5,798, with 42,911 negatives and 82 deaths reported in NEDSS.

Updated data can be found on the chart on the “Positive Cases in Erie County” page on eriecountypa.gov.

As of this morning, there were 123 total hospitalizations and 14 people on ventilators in Erie County.

Of the cumulative cases, 55% are female and 45% are male.

The breakdown of cumulative cases by race/ethnicity is as follows:

  • 55% White residents
  • 11% African American/Black residents
  • 5% Asian residents
  • 1% Other
  • 28% Unknown
Three percent of the cases are Hispanic, of any race; 53% are not Hispanic; and 44% are unknown.

The age breakdown of the cumulative cases looks like this:

  • 2% are ages 0-4
  • 1% are ages 5-9
  • 8% are ages 10-18
  • 14% are ages 19-24
  • 36% are ages 25-49
  • 20% are ages 50-64
  • 18% are ages 65 and older

All residents are reminded to wear a mask over their nose and mouth when near anyone who does not live inside their home, keep a 6-foot distance from others, stay home as much as possible – and definitely when feeling ill, wash hands frequently, and limit activities outside of their homes.

Representatives from Erie County’s local healthcare systems provided updates today and urged residents to make smart choices in the community and to use the tools above:

  • Corry Memorial Hospital: Barbara D. Nichols, President and Chief Executive Officer
The next press briefing will take place Wednesday, Dec. 9, at 3 p.m. The County Executive is also providing updates on Mondays and Fridays via Facebook.
