Thanks to American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) funds, older Pennsylvanians and Pennsylvanians with disabilities who qualify for the Property Tax/Rent Rebate (PTRR) program are eligible for a one-time bonus rebate on top of their annual rebate, with the deadline to apply coming on Dec. 31.
Those who qualify for a rebate on rent or property taxes paid in 2021 will receive a bonus rebate equal to 70% of their original rebate, a recent news release from Gov. Wolf’s office said. The governor is reminding those who may be eligible to apply now and not miss their chance on the one-time offer.
“This is the only year that these one-time bonus rebates are available, and I don’t want to see any eligible Pennsylvanians miss out on the bonus rebates,” he said in the release. “By boosting the amount recipients get this year, we’re helping older Pennsylvanians and Pennsylvanians with disabilities deal with inflation and higher prices while staying in their homes.”
The plan by Wolf—who introduced the proposal in August—was in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, which left many people in financial turmoil that continues to this day. The rebates are being paid for through $140 million in federal ARPA funds.
“Although we have already received more than 458,000 applications this year for rebates on rent or property taxes paid in 2021, we know there are still eligible applicants in the commonwealth who can benefit from this program by simply submitting an application,” Dan Hassell, secretary of Revenue, said in the release. “If you’re one of the eligible Pennsylvanians who has not yet submitted an application, act now so that you can take advantage of the rebate program and the additional bonus that Governor Wolf worked to make possible this year.”
Anyone who has already filed a PA-1000 application for a rebate on property taxes or rent in 2021 does not need to take any additional action. Eligible claimants who have not applied can do so by visiting myPATH, the Department of Revenue’s free online filing system.
