WASHINGTON, DC – On June 5, 2023, U.S. Senators Bob Casey (D-PA) and John Fetterman (D-PA) announced a $375,000 grant from the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (IIJA) to study how best to alleviate congestion and train delays and improve safety and travel time for passengers and freight at three rail crossings in Southeastern Pennsylvania. The Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) designated the funding for the following crossings: the Meetinghouse Road rail crossing in Delaware County and the Township Line and Woodbourne Road crossings in Bucks County.

“Because of the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act, Pennsylvania can invest in making rail crossings in Delco and Bucks County safer and more efficient,” Senator Casey said. “This is yet another example of the infrastructure law improving passenger and freight rail throughout Southeastern Pennsylvania and across our Nation.”

“It’s an honor to join with Senator Casey to announce this funding from President Biden’s Bipartisan Infrastructure Law to make rail crossings in Bucks and Delaware Counties safer,” Senator Fetterman said. “Keeping pedestrians safe is a top priority for me, and this funding will help us get there at these sites across the region.”

The Federal Railroad Administration’s Railroad Crossing Elimination Grant Program, authorized by the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act, provides funding for highway-rail and pathway-rail grade crossing improvement projects that focus on improving the safety and mobility of people and goods. The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) will contribute an additional $375,000 award to the study.
