A Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request was sent to Lehigh County on October 7, 2024. The request, made by Keystone Today, a media organization committed to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, sought access to public records under the Pennsylvania Right to Know Law.
Specifically, Keystone Today requested electronic copies of FOIA logs sent to the county from January 1, 2024 till October 7, 2024. The requested information included the requester's name and organization, content of the request, date of the request and its completion date, as well as the status of the FOIA.
As members of the media involved in gathering and reporting news to the public, we at Keystone Today believe that access to public records is essential for us to fulfill our professional responsibilities. These include holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency to the public. Given our role in disseminating information, we have also requested a fee waiver as media professionals.
We await Lehigh County's response and will continue our efforts in ensuring transparency in local government affairs.
