A Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request was sent to the Centre County Sheriff's Office regarding arrest records on October 22, 2024. The request was made by Keystone Today, a media organization committed to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs.
In our quest for transparency and accountability in public institutions, we requested all arrest records from January 1, 2024, to the present day under the Pennsylvania Right to Know Law. The data points we asked for include the arrestee's name, sex, race, age, date of birth (DOB), citizenship status, booking ID, date of arrest, booking photo, names of arresting officers, type of crime committed, location of crime and date of crime.
We believe that access to these public records is essential for us at Keystone Today to fulfill our professional responsibilities. As a media organization involved in gathering and reporting news to the public, we are entitled to a fee waiver as per the law.
Our aim is not just about holding public institutions accountable but also providing transparency to the public. We will continue striving towards ensuring that every citizen has access to information that affects their lives directly or indirectly.
Please feel free to reach out if you have any questions or need further clarification about this request.
