Greg Moreland, the Pennsylvania State Director for the National Federation of Independent Business (NFIB), recently addressed concerns about regulatory challenges facing small businesses in Pennsylvania. He testified before the House Republican Labor & Industry Committee, highlighting the impact of extensive regulations on businesses in the state.

"The government has imposed approximately 165,000 different regulations on business, simply here in the Commonwealth," Moreland stated. He expressed concern over the continuous addition and amendment of laws, as well as their enforcement by unelected officials. According to Moreland, these regulations carry significant consequences such as fines and legal costs.

In a separate testimony before the House Energy Committee, Moreland discussed energy efficiency standards related to appliances and House Bill 660. The NFIB is apprehensive that HB 660 could limit market choices for small businesses by restricting certain appliance sales.

"NFIB is concerned that this legislation allows the government to pick winners and losers of commercial appliance products and allows the Department of Environmental Protection to set more stringent standards than the Department of Energy," said Moreland.
