Twenty-three voting rights and democracy organizations have addressed a letter to Pennsylvania House Speaker Joanna McClinton and members of the General Assembly. The letter urges them to oppose House Bill 771, which proposes new voter ID requirements that could disenfranchise eligible voters in Pennsylvania.

The bill seeks to introduce additional paperwork and identification requirements for in-person voting across all elections in the state. Critics argue that these changes would impose significant costs on election administrators and state agencies already facing challenges. They also warn that the bill could lead to confusion at polling stations, complicating the voter check-in process and potentially resulting in longer wait times.

Common Cause Pennsylvania is among the 23 groups opposing the bill. "The people are speaking with a clear voice. Our elections should be made more accessible, and this bill would make them less so. We encourage Representatives to reject House Bill 771 and to not disenfranchise eligible Pennsylvania voters," stated Philip Hensley-Robin, Executive Director of Common Cause Pennsylvania.
