CITY OF ALLENTOWN: Projects in City Awarded RACP Funding

Nonprofit funding

City of Allentown issued the following announcement on Dec 23.

Three projects within the City of Allentown have received funding approval from the State’s Redevelopment Assistance Capital Program (RACP), totaling $3 million, according to Senator Pat Browne and Representatives Mike Schlossberg and Peter Schweyer who all secured the funding. All three projects have previously been legislatively authorized.

“There is significant recognition from Allentown’s state legislative delegation that these organizations provide indispensable services to Allentown and the broader Lehigh Valley region,” Senator Browne said. “By securing State support, we are ensuring that these organizations will have the resources necessary to advance their respective missions and provide services to the residents who rely on them the most. I am proud to have worked with my House colleagues in securing these investments.”

“I am proud to partner with these three organizations and my colleagues on these projects. We are addressing housing, health care to create new jobs and veterinarian services. This investment reflects the values we care about in our community. These projects show the power of partnership between organizations and the community,” Representative Schweyer said.

The three projects – Capitol Blue Cross, the Little Lehigh housing development, and the Lehigh County Humane Society– received a total $3 million.

“These projects will benefit my constituents and residents of the entire region,” Representative Schlossberg said.  “They run the gamut of all the things I support: Good paying jobs, parks and nature…and puppies.”

Capitol Blue Cross was awarded a total of $1 million for renovations ultimately updating the office to accommodate both technological advances and to relocate jobs from a subsidiary in Virginia.

The Little Lehigh housing development project, through the city of Allentown’s Housing Authority, was awarded $1 million. This project will consist of the demolition of 8 existing structures and the new construction of 6 buildings plus a community building being established in their place.

This expansion project for the Lehigh County Humane Society will include a new state-of-the-art Community Veterinary Clinic, renovated and expanded modern animal kennels and a new Community Adoption Center. The Community Veterinary Clinic will include three wellness exam rooms, radiology, a long-term care area, dental, pre- and post-operative areas and a surgery center.

The Redevelopment Assistance Capital Program is a Commonwealth grant program administered by the Office of the Budget for the acquisition and construction of regional economic, cultural, civic, recreational, and historical improvement projects. RACP projects are authorized in the Redevelopment Assistance section of a Capital Budget Itemization Act, have a regional or multi-jurisdictional impact, and generate substantial increases or maintain current levels of employment, tax revenues, or other measures of economic activity.
