Sen. Pat Toomey (R-Pa.) applauded President Joe Biden’s call for unity and hopes to see this effort as the president fulfills his duties working alongside both parties, The Hill reported.
“I commend President Biden for his call for national unity, and his assurance to those who did not support him that he will nevertheless be president for all Americans. I urge the president to follow through on this commitment by working with members of Congress from both sides of the aisle to pursue policies that will lead to peace and prosperity for all Americans," Toomey said.
The senator from Pennsylvania also hoped for Biden’s success in steering the country’s direction.
“I am praying for President Biden and his success in leading our country forward,” Toomey wrote on Twitter.
In his inaugural speech, Biden addressed both his supporters and non-followers, saying that the latter can expect him to be a president for all.
“To all those who did not support us, let me say this: Hear me out as we move forward,” President Biden said. “Take a measure of me and my heart. And if you still disagree, so be it. That’s democracy. That’s America. The right to dissent peaceably, within the guardrails of our republic, is perhaps our nation’s greatest strength. Yet hear me clearly: Disagreement must not lead to disunion. And I pledge this to you: I will be a President for all Americans. I will fight as hard for those who did not support me as for those who did."
