Pennsylvania Department of Health releases current COVID-19 statistics

The Pennsylvania Department of Health recently released an update on the state of COVID-19 cases, hospitalizations and deaths throughout the state, according to Pennsylvania Pressroom.

"The Pennsylvania Department of Health today confirmed that as of 12:00 a.m., Wednesday, Oct. 6, there were 5,058 additional positive cases of COVID-19, bringing the statewide total to 1,458,445," Pennsylvania Pressroom said.

Hospitalizations for COVID-19 are currently 2,891, with 675 of those in the ICU.

The statewide test positivity rate for the week of Sept. 24 to Sept. 30 stood at 9.1%

A total of 29,722 deaths due to COVID-19 have been reported in Pennsylvania as of Oct. 5.

The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) reported that as of Oct. 6, more than 12.9 million vaccinations have been administered in Pennsylvania to date, with 69.2% of Pennsylvanians aged 18 and older now fully vaccinated. The state currently ranks 5th among all 50 states for total doses administered.

The CDC continues to recommend that citizens follow COVID-19 health guidelines, which include wearing a mask in public, especially those who haven't been vaccinated yet, which includes all children under 12.

The vaccine is available to all Pennsylvanians aged 12 and older. Residents can use the Vaccine Finder to find a local COVID-19 vaccine provider. More information about vaccinations can be obtained by calling the Department of Health hotline at 1-877-724-3258.
