Collegium Kindergarten Students Bring Cheer to Assisted Living Community

Kids park 22

Exton Region Chamber of Commerce issued the following announcement on Dec. 14.

Kindergarten students at Collegium Charter School (CCS) participated in the “season of giving” by putting on a special choral performance for the residents at Arbor Terrace, an assisted living community in the Exton Oaklands Corporate Center. Arbor Terrace opened in April 2021 and is now neighbors with one of Collegium’s Kindergarten through 4th Grade buildings.

From the minute the Kindergarten teachers learned they would be one innovative pod (team), they knew they wanted to build community. So their theme became “Kindergarten is all...About Building Community (ABCs),” because not only do the teachers want to develop a sense of community in their classrooms and school, they want to introduce students to the ideas of helping others and spreading happiness!

The walk across the parking lot to Arbor Terrace has been in the works for a while. Teachers reached out to the assisted living community, hoping to build a relationship between their residents and Collegium’s Kindergarten students, but because of COVID-19, that was put on pause until now. Kindergarten teacher Mrs. Frank shared, “We could not be more excited! Our students have been working extremely hard to learn and practice four different songs for our choral adventure. They are so excited to know that we are bringing happiness to others, especially knowing that family may not surround them during this time of year.”

In addition to the Kindergarten students singing for the residents at Arbor Terrace, some of Collegium’s High School students jumped at the opportunity to work with the little ones, too. The High School students helped them to the assisted living facility’s parking lot, where the show took place. The Kindergarten teachers welcomed the older CCS students to show what fantastic role models look like up close and personal.

Mrs. Frank said, “It's beautiful to see our youngest and oldest students working together to build community in our neighborhood. This is just another reason why our CCS family is supportive and caring to all."
