The Pennsylvania Commission for Women hosted a virtual "Financial Security for Crime Survivors" discussion recently to address financial abuse and highlight resources that are available to victims living in Pennsylvania.

Commission Executive Director Moriah Hathaway said the discussion was hosted in partnership with FreeFrom, the state’s Coalition Against Domestic Violence, the Commission on Crime and Delinquency, the Department of Banking and Security and the Office of Victim Advocate.

“Our goal is to ensure that survivors, advocates and policymakers understand how financial abuse impacts Pennsylvanians and learn ways to address this disparity and alleviate this issue,” Hathaway said, according to the Official Pennsylvania Government Website.

Pennsylvania is offering financial education resources available at no cost to residents through the Department of Banking and Securities (DoBS). This includes Investing in Women, a DoBS initiative whose mission is to give women essential information about banking, credit, saving and investing, along with practical resources to better understand their finances.

DoBS Investor Education and Consumer Outreach employees are working with state and local government agencies, the General Assembly, the military and schools to help Pennsylvania residents become well-informed about finances and the economy.

Pennsylvanian residents are invited to learn more about these free programs and presentations by visiting the Pennsylvania Department of Banking and Securities Website.
