Jim Bognet, the Republican candidate for Pennsylvania's 8th Congressional District, recently said that President Joe Biden and U.S. Rep. Matt Cartwright misrepresented themselves in order to get elected.
"Joe Biden and Matt Cartwright lied to us to get elected," Bognet said in a statement. "They claimed to be moderate and reasonable, but they lied. They've governed as liberals. So on Nov. 8, help me drain the swamp. Because I've got one thing to tell you: Biden and Cartwright have lost their minds and sold their souls. My message to the voters of northeastern Pennsylvania is simple: If you're happy with where the country's going, if you're happy with $5 gasoline and people streaming across the border, maybe you ought to vote for the other guy."
NBC News reported that 100 days into Biden's presidency, he was earning praise from Democrats who were pleasantly surprised with how progressive his policies had been, including spending trillions of dollars on "COVID relief" and "infrastructure." Liberals praised Biden for rejecting moderate Democratic White House veterans, with Bernie Sanders supporter and former union leader Larry Cohen saying that White House staffing decisions wouldn't "have been better if Bernie Sanders was the president."
"Biden has been incredibly responsive to the progressive movement," Rep. Jamaal Bowman (D-N.Y.) said.
"What's clear is that we have a negotiating partner in the White House," Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-Minn.) said.
Cartwright has voted in favor of key aspects of Biden's policy agenda, including Build Back Better and the Women's Health Protection Act, according to Ballotpedia. He also voted in favor of impeaching former President Donald Trump, and supports a large government role in the economy. He worked as a lawyer before being elected to Congress in 2012.
Bognet defeated Mike Marsicano to win the Republican nomination and will face Cartwright in November's general election, according to Ballotpedia.
Bognet is an advocate for supporting small businesses, decreasing regulations and creating jobs, according to his website. He supports security at the border and has criticized Biden and Cartwright for secretly flying illegal immigrants into the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton airport. He is also a critic of Democrats' trillions of dollars in spending, which he says has led to increased taxes and inflation, and has hurt businesses and the middle class. Bognet supports parental rights in education and opposes "woke" indoctrination in schools.
