Cabinetworks Group is planning to expand its Mount Union facility in Huntingdon County, which will help create and retain 1,694 jobs, which makes it the second Cabinetworks Group project invested under the leadership of Gov. Tom Wolf.
The company is investing $23 million to expand its component manufacturing facility by converting it to a “complete cabinet manufacturing and assembly operation,” according to an announcement by the Wolf Administration on October 13.
“My administration remains committed to investing in growing companies like Cabinetworks Group and boosting the commonwealth’s manufacturing industry,” said Wolf. “This is the kind of company that contributes to our strong manufacturing environment while also creating jobs in rural counties like Huntingdon County – a true win for Pennsylvania.”
According to a release by Wolf’s office, Cabinetworks is the largest independently owned manufacturer and distributor of cabinets in the U.S. It produces kitchen and bath framed and frameless cabinetry for dealers, builders, distributors and home centers.
Acting Secretary of the Department of Community and Economic Development (DCED) Neil Weaver toured the facility and held a press conference to make the announcement.
“We’re pleased to support this newest expansion as the company continues to grow in central Pennsylvania.”
Cabinetworks Group received a funding proposal of $981,000 from the DCED for a Pennsylvania First Grant, as well as a workforce development grant of $630,000 for training of new workers. The company has committed to creating 327 new jobs over three years and retain the 1,367 existing employees at four locations across Pennsylvania.
Cabinetworks Group CEO John Barkhouse was also present for the tour and press conference and thanked the Wolf Administration for their help.
“We are extremely proud to expand our operations in central Pennsylvania, bringing advanced manufacturing to the region, creating new jobs in Huntingdon County, and contributing to the state’s economy.”
The project was made possible through the Governor’s Action Team, which has invested almost $18 billion while supporting 430 projects over the past seven years. This has led to 48,000 new jobs and 145,200 jobs retained. The last project involving Cabinetworks Group was in 2016 when $10.7 million was invested to buy the 200,000 square foot facility in Mount Union where the tour and press conference took place.
“This is a great example of how public and private sectors can work together to grow manufacturing in Huntingdon County,” said Debra Clark-Loner, Executive Director, Huntingdon County Business & Industry. “We are very pleased that Cabinetworks Group found a home with us and are grateful for their commitment to the community.”
