Volleyball Falls at Misericordia; Earns #4 Seed in MAC Freedom Postseason

The DeSales University volleyball team fell to Misericordia University, 3-0, in the MAC Freedom regular season finale on Thursday evening and will be the #4 seed in the MAC Freedom postseason tournament next week.

The Basics

  • Final Score: Misericordia - 3, DeSales - 0 (16-25, 25-27, 22-25)
  • Records: DeSales (16-12, 6-2 MAC Freedom); Misericordia (21-8, 6-2 MAC Freedom)
  • It is just the second time in team history the Bulldogs have lost to Misericordia, snapping an 11-match win streak. DSU is now 22-2 all-time vs. the Cougars.
  • The loss drops DSU into a three-way tie for second place with Misericordia and Arcadia and because of percentage of points won among tthe tied teams, DSU falls to the #4 seed for the MAC Freedom postseason tournament.
How it Happened

  • DSU held a 9-7 lead midway thru the first set before Misericordia scored 12 of the next 13 points and nine straight to take a 19-10 lead and ultimately a 25-16 first set win.
  • The Cougars were in control early in the second set leading 11-4 and continued to lead 17-8 before the Bulldogs made a run.
  • DSU scored six straight and eight of nine points to pull within 18-16.
  • Down 23-19, DeSales scored four straight to tie the set and had a set point at 25-24 but MU scored three straight points to take a 2-0 lead.
  • MU led 15-9 in the third set before six straight from DeSales tied the score at 15.
  • It was a 23-22 score late when the Cougars scored two straight to close out the match.
Top Bulldog Performers

  • First-year Abby Weise led the attack with 11 kills.
  • First-year Madison Swift and sophomore Samantha Worontzoff each had four blocks.
  • Senior McKenzie Brady totaled 15 digs and added three aces.
For the Foes

  • Sophie Winter led the Cougars with 10 kills and five blocks.
  • Jenna Schuda had 28 assists and five kills.
Inside the Box Score

  • DSU had 37 kills as compared to just 22 for the Warriors.
  • The Bulldogs also had 11 service aces.
