Brendan Boyle discusses Syria amid Assad regime collapse

Rep. Brendan Boyle, a member of the U.S. Congress representing Pennsylvania’s 2nd district since 2015, has been vocal about the situation in Syria following the collapse of Bashar al-Assad's regime. He replaced Allyson Schwartz in Congress and has been involved with issues concerning Syria for over a decade.

On December 8, 2024, Rep. Boyle issued a statement regarding the fall of Assad's regime. He shared this joint statement with Rep. French Hill through a tweet: "My full statement with @RepFrenchHill on the collapse of Bashar al-Assad's regime: https://t.co/RDmTT40kgz".

The following day, December 9, he emphasized resisting binary choices between military escalation and neglecting Syrian citizens' plight: "We must resist the false choice between military escalation and ignoring the Syrian people." He highlighted that no one is advocating for endangering soldiers but stressed supporting Syrians abroad working towards freedom from repression.

Also on December 9, Rep. Boyle reflected on his longstanding collaboration with members of the Syrian diaspora against Assad’s rule: "For over a decade I have worked with members of the Syrian diaspora to stand up to Assad's regime." While acknowledging their collective relief at Assad's downfall, he urged continued efforts to aid Syrians in achieving democracy and stability.
