House Committee on Agriculture Chairman Glenn “GT” Thompson and Senate Committee on Agriculture, Nutrition, and Forestry Ranking Member John Boozman have expressed concern over the current state of negotiations regarding the farm bill extension and economic aid for producers.

In a joint statement, they highlighted the financial challenges faced by American farmers, stating that "America’s farmers have lost over $30 billion this year." They emphasized their efforts in advocating for farmers' concerns through various platforms including meetings, hearings, and discussions with both Republicans and Democrats.

Thompson and Boozman criticized congressional leadership for not providing necessary economic assistance to help farmers manage the ongoing crisis. They mentioned a recent proposal from Republican leaders: "Last night Republican leaders offered Leader Schumer and Leader Jefferies a $12 billion economic aid package for our nation’s farmers, which they rejected."

The lawmakers warned of severe repercussions if economic support is not included in any forthcoming legislative measures. "The failure to include economic assistance will have devastating and lasting consequences on our farm families," they stated. Furthermore, they declared their intention to oppose any spending package that does not address these needs.

"Our farmers work too hard... They deserve our help now," concluded Thompson and Boozman.
