Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) has issued a reminder for motorists to exercise caution on roadways, particularly during snow squalls or low-visibility conditions. Motorists are advised to avoid unnecessary travel and be cautious while driving. Speed and vehicle restrictions have been implemented in response to the storm.

A 45 mph speed limit reduction is in place on I-80 between Exit 42: PA 38 Emlenton and Exit 120: PA 879 Clearfield/Shawville. PennDOT crews are treating roads to prevent ice formation, but icy spots may still occur, especially on bridges and ramps.

Restrictions are communicated through variable message boards, the 511PA traveler information website, and smartphone apps. Motorists can sign up for personalized alerts online. Restrictions will be lifted when conditions improve, based on reports from first responders and transportation personnel.

PennDOT advises drivers encountering snow squalls or drifting snow to slow down gradually, use headlights and hazard lights if necessary, maintain lane discipline, increase following distance, stay alert, avoid distractions, use defrosters and wipers, keep windows clear of snow and ice, stop only when safe off-roadway during whiteouts, avoid stopping in traffic flow to prevent collisions, refrain from passing slow vehicles or speeding away from tailgaters, always buckle up and never drive impaired. An emergency kit is recommended.

Road conditions can be checked via www.511PA.com or by calling 5-1-1. The service provides traffic delay warnings, weather forecasts, traffic speed information, and access to over 1,000 traffic cameras.

For incidents on the PA Turnpike, dial *11 on mobile phones. Updates will be provided through social channels and at service plazas.
