Pennsylvania’s Republican electors met in private to cast provisional votes for the Trump campaign should it be successful in its legal challenges of its supporters to have courts overturn the election results.
“We took this procedural vote to preserve any legal claims that may be presented going forward” Bernie Comfort, Pennsylvania Chair of the Trump campaign, said. “This was in no way an effort to usurp or contest the will of the Pennsylvania voters.”
The Electoral College cast their votes today.
Theoretically, in the case a judicial decision would result in another four years of a Trump presidency the provisional vote would revert to Donald Trump.
The provision reads in part “on the understanding that if, as a result of a final non-appealable Court Order or other proceeding prescribed by law, [they] are ultimately recognized as being the duly elected and qualified Electors for President and Vice President of the United States of America from the State of Pennsylvania.”
