Amazon received $30 million in subsidies, tax breaks, and grants from Pennsylvania state and local communities for four projects.

Advocacy group Good Jobs First, which opposes such subsidies, found Pennsylvania provided the 24th-highest amount of grants and breaks among U.S. states to the nearly $1-trillion company.

Pennsylvania is ranked behind North Carolina (5 projects/$31 million) and ahead of Georgia (5 projects/$27 million), Mississippi (3 projects/$24 million), and Iowa (2 projects/$22 million).

The most expensive subsidy provided in Pennsylvania was provided by the state, equaling $22 million in tax credits and cash for employee training.

The second largest subsidy was worth $4 million for a film tax credit, which lacked information about if it was offered by the state or from local governments.

Large corporations are often inclined to invest in Pennsylvania given it's wide variety of available tax breaks.

Analysis of Pennsylvania's subsides and receipt disclosures showed the state uses mostly fair practices, though there are issues with its costliest subsidy program.

As of Nov. 17, 2022, Amazon had received 310 separate tax break deals from local and state governments across the U.S., totaling $5.14 billion. The state of Virginia was home to the largest portion of these taxpayer-subsidized Amazon projects.
