City of Allentown issued the following announcement on May 12
Motorists traveling on Martin Luther King Drive in the city should be aware of anticipated delays.
A lane shift is in effect along MLK between Schreiber’s Bridge at Lehigh Parkway East and the Ward Street Bridge for a Lehigh County Authority sewer pipeline project. Travel will remain two lanes.
Schreiber’s Bridge over the Little Lehigh Creek will be closed to traffic beginning Monday, May 18.
· Motorists traveling on Martin Luther King Jr. Drive wishing to use the Lehigh Parkway Bridge will be detoured to Ward Street and will re-enter at the Wyoming Street / Lehigh Parkway intersection.
· Motorists traveling on Lehigh Parkway toward the bridge will be detoured to Wyoming Street and will re-enter at the Ward Street / Martin Luther King Jr. Drive intersection.
· Access to park parking from Martin Luther King Jr. Drive will be closed. Other access to park parking will remain open.
· Work hours the week of May 11 will be from 7:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.
· Work hours the week of May 18 will be from 7:00 a.m. – 7:00 p.m.
Work is expected to be completed on May 22.
The city Streets Department will be doing repairs on Martin Luther King Jr. Drive, from Lehigh Street to S.10th Street, on Wednesday, May 13 from 7:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. A detour will be in place.
