Washington, D.C. - On April 28, 2023, U.S. Senator Bob Casey (D-PA) is announcing $660,783 for Brownsville-based Heartland Fabrication to acquire two new electric bridge cranes for their shipyard, which will help modernize the shipyard and facilitate loading and unloading operations. The funding comes from the Fiscal Year 2023 spending bill and will enable Heartland Fabrication to build and repair the barges that move goods along America’s inland waterways, including the major rivers in Southwestern Pennsylvania.

“Pennsylvania’s shipyards are vital links in our supply chains, moving goods and ensuring we can keep up in a 21st century marketplace,” said Senator Casey. “Thanks to this federal investment, Brownsville’s Heartland Fabrication can expand its operations and capacity, allowing more commerce to flow through Southwestern Pennsylvania. This is another example of how the Biden Administration is delivering on its promise to invest in our infrastructure and strengthen our economy.”

The MARAD Small Shipyard Grant Program, funded through the FY 2023 spending bill, strengthens the economic competitiveness of shipyards and funds the purchase of American-made manufacturing equipment that supports a wide range of jobs throughout our Nation’s manufacturing base.
