Gov. Tom Wolf (D-PA) reminded Pennsylvania residents who need affordable health insurance to look into Pennie, the state's official health and dental coverage marketplace.

Open enrollment for health coverage begins on Nov. 1, according to a news release from the governor's office. Pennie is "the commonwealth's online one-stop-shop" for people who need financial assistance to reduce the cost of health insurance and care. The goal of the marketplace is to make it easier for Pennsylvania residents to access coverage through education, assistance, and improved customer service.

"Pennie is making health care more affordable than ever here in Pennsylvania, and I urge anyone who is seeking affordable health care coverage to visit pennie.com today to start weighing their options and to, hopefully, take advantage of the quality health care and services available," Wolf said in the news release. "Having quality health insurance is a fundamental right all Pennsylvanians deserve. My administration has made exploring these benefits more readily accessible, right from your own home – you can calculate potential savings, check out coverage options, and enroll in the best plan for you, your family, and your budget.”

Improvements to the marketplace shopping experience were made for 2023 plans, including new plan details and search features, the news release noted. Wolf recommended that residents use Pennie to shop around for the best plan for their family and financial needs. He said people should use Pennie even if they are already enrolled in a plan, as they could possibly save money through a change in rates and lowered subsidies.

"The Wolf administration has remained dedicated to the health, well-being, and financial security of all Pennsylvanians and has taken various paths to educate consumers about the importance of health insurance before, during, and after COVID-19," Mike Humphreys, Pennsylvania insurance commissioner, said in the news release. "Gov. Wolf and I know Pennsylvanians want and deserve equal access to health coverage, including increased options within the individual market."

Pennie’s Open Enrollment Period begins on Nov. 1 and runs through Jan.15, 2023, according to the news release. Residents can shop for health and dental coverage during that time period. Pennie will remain open for people who are experiencing a qualifying life event, including moving to another part of the state or loss of coverage.

Information about Pennie, including frequently asked questions and assistance with enrollment, can be found at Pennie.com.
